“Cherries” by Erin Ryan Meyer

Musical laughs
In a sunlight bath
Juice staining lips
Wrapping cherry pits
Tiny footsteps
On needles of grass
Knotted up stems
And violent gasps
Saliva drips
From rotten fruit
And bloodied bits
Soak into roots
Convulsing skin
Silence within
