“The Tear” by Zachary McMichael

Oh, what remarkable beauty I see
A seamless landscape of white gems intertwined
But for one speck of darkness that lies at my feet
Which came from my very own unsettled mind
The tenuous size of it fails to compare
With that of the sorrow which caused it to fall
A stranger would not even notice it there,
Yet, still the void grinds at my skull like a saw
The absence of laughter which once warmed my soul
Has shrouded the moon’s joyful, comforting glow
Piercing a narrow, deep, internal hole
That’s now manifested itself in the snow
