Two poems by Elizabeth Oleska

“A Light in the Dark”

A seed planted,
Patiently nurturing growth.
Providing nourishment,
A taste of the Pure,
A guiding hand,
Leading to trust.
A selfless act,
Empowering a wandering soul.
A glowing light within,
Flickering against the breeze.
A brush against the flesh,
Skin to skin.
The warmth of unconditional regard.
An embrace of compassion,
Like satin angel wings.
Broken pieces held together,
Enveloped in a mystical shroud of love.
Traveling a new path,
A different perspective seen.
A sturdy shelter offered,
Encouraging wounds to heal.
Through unspoken words,
A glimpse of serenity.
A light in the dark.
Comforting tendrils of peace.
Convincing a new bud to formed.
Natural beauty shines through,
A sight not seen before.
No longer broken,
Shattered pieces regenerated.
Restoring clouded faith,
A soul harmonizing with it’s surroundings.
A welcomed light.
A blossoming flower.
A shimmering beacon.
Transformed by love.
A light within the dark.

“Home”

A muffled squeak as the front door opens,
The door mat at my feet.
The smell of fresh bread in the oven,
A familiar scent released.
Soft music playing in the background,
The glow of the wood fire on my skin.
The creaking floor boards I walk on,
A comforting warmth is felt from within.

A humming from in the kitchen,
Brings a smile to my face.
I cannot imagine going anywhere else,
Then this wonderful, welcoming place.

I hear the sounds of children playing,
From up and down the street.
It takes me back to my childhood,
Memories to forever run deep.
From the moment I step foot,
Into this place I once called home.
The years begin to replay back,
I could never feel alone.

My senses take me on a journey,
Each and every time I return.
A home is what you make of it,
This is something I had to learn.
The people we call family,
May or may not be identified by blood.
It is how they make you feel,
Offering kindness, acceptance and love.

Although this house may be just a building,
There is much comfort found inside.
For whenever I am in it, I feel like I come back alive.
The memories keep me returning,
Through the world I will roam.
All the love and warmth within it,
This will forever be my home.
